I’ll admit it: I’m a former mall rat. Going shopping is an experience I’ve always cherished; and as a marketer observing large crowds going to through buying processes is so insightful.
As we speak I’m very excited: in recent times holographic technologies have made tremendous progress and it is safe to say there are many applications of such in retail environments. Combined with artificial intelligence the possibilities are endless.
Enhanced points of sale
Imagine going to an outdoor equipment store and being surrounded by virtual, holographic flora, fauna and other forms of life as well as items for sale. Such setups are slowly being implemented in malls around the world providing a memorable experience to shoppers.
Virtual sales assistants
Holographic virtual sales assistants will probably not replace their human counterparts for a long time in part because AI still has a long way to go but they certainly bring a wow factor that has potential to bring more foot traffic.
Virtual spokespersons and other celebrities
Similar to virtual sales assistants, holographic celebrities endorsing products, professional athletes, musicians can add an element of excitement to the customer experience. Imagine 6 ft 8 Lebron James (in the holographic flesh) interacting with you selling his new pair of Nikes; or Tupac Shakur and Elvis Presley performing their upcoming posthumous releases.
Brace yourself: the mall of the future will be an exciting venue.
